classify と categorize
この二つの語も研究報告やアブストラクトでｙおく用いられるものですが、同じ意味のregister と独立した部分を考えておき、必要に応じて使い分けしたいものです。
classify 共通な特性を持ったもののグループに分類する。
categorize 科学的、哲学、生物学などの分類に使う専門的な術語 （米国では、classify と同義語が標準用法）
We classifiy poems as epic,lynic,and dramatic.
Today one of every seven people in Western Europe is classified as elderly.
His latest work cannot be categorized as either a novel or an autography.
We categorize biology into Species,Genus,and Family (種，属，科）
treat と deal with
日本語では、どちらも、「取り扱う」と通例訳して親しまれて？いる語ですね。treat のほうは医療、医学の分野では「治療する」として頻繁に用いられています。これらの差異をもう少しみておきます。
treat 通常、取り扱う態度を示すことばとともに用います。(〜 carefully)
deal with うまく処理する、さばく、ことを暗示します。
Steel fittings and parts are cadmium coated,and sheet metal assemblies are treated with zinc chromate. （ with zinc 、、〜で））
Physics is the physical science which deals with matter and energy and with transformation. ( with matter、、、でうまく、、、）
clarify と elucidate
日本人の書いた英語研究論文には非常に多く, This stufy is to clarify 〜 ....... . 一方外国の研究者のものには、 Here we are to elucidate our objectives and method of. ....... .など clarify より はるかに elucidate が多いように感じます。両方とも 「明らかにする」 の意ですがやや前提に部分が異なります。
clarify 混乱を生じているもの、疑念のあるもの、不確かなもの、をはっきりさせる。
elucidate 明快な説明、あるいは慎重な分析により、難解なものを理解しやすくする。
ということですから、研究論文などはelucidate のほうが通例より適切なことが多いと思います。

I will try to elucidate what I think the problems are.
calculate と compute
これらも,どちらも、「計算する」という意味をコアにしていますが、理系の論文では使用を明確に区別して起きたい語ですね。
calculate
数学、科学上の複雑で、高度な数字を使って計算する場合に用い、測定などですぐには確かめられません。
compute
通例、複雑ではない簡単で少し時間のかかる計算に用いられます。

decide と determine
国際学会で発表するときや、研究論文を仕上げるときによくきかれることのひとつに、decide とdetermine 、どちらを使えばいいですか、というのがあります。
decide 「決めかねていたことをや、疑い、争いに決着をつけ今後の行動や進路を決定する。」
We`ve decided not to attend the conference.
The doctors have to decide what treatment should be more effective to the patient.
determine 「何かを明確に決める。結果として決まる。」
The quality of thermal energy possesed by a particular body determines its temperature.
The relative magnitudes of molecular forces and molecular kinetic energies determine the pysical state of a substance.
これは日本人の英語使用者が、「〜を決める、決定する」くらいの和訳語を頭にうかべ、それ以上のことは考えず使用しているということを典型的に表しているとおもいます。英語の和訳は「翻案」（明治の一時期には翻訳でなく翻案といっていた）というくらいにとりあえずのものであるので、やはり、語のdefinition やregisterをしっかりと理解しておくことが大切だと考えています。
include, contain, comprise, comprehend,
上記のそれぞれの単語は、日本語では普通、「〜を含む、含んでいる」と訳していますが、当然それぞれ微妙に異なったregisterを持っていますので論文など正確さを必要とするものは注意して用いたいものです。
include : 全体の一部として含む、いくつかある構成要素の一つとしてあることを示す
contain : 含まれるものの全体を示したり。、成分、内容を示す
comprise : 全体を構成するものとして、各部分を、含有していることを示す
comprehend : 全範囲に包含する、含蓄する、理解することを示す
実際に技術英文として使われている例を記しますと、
Work instructions usually should include description or references to samples of adequate and inadquate work, so that workers know what is acceptable and unacceptable.

次の例文は include と contain を含んで参考になりますね。
The package contains six reams of paper and among these six reams were included two of blue paper and one of yellow.
表現形式と差異
技術英文の場合は同じことをいろいろな形式で表現できることが多いですね。例えば、次の二つの文はほとんど同じ内容を表しています。
These inverted sugars are as sweet as sucrose. (A)
これらの転化糖の甘さは、蔗糖とおなじである
The sweetness of these inverted sugars is comparable to that of sucrose. (B)
転化糖の甘さは、蔗糖に匹敵する
ただし、（A) と (B) がまったく同じというわけではなく、それぞれを使うより適切な場があるということですね。つまり、
転化糖をいろいろ議論している論文では （A) がむいています。
一方、甘さについて論じているなら （B) の文がよいということになります。
